Whiteout

I float onto the scene slowly
Icy lint gently muffling everything
Edges are rounded, leveled, woven together
The color is bleached out
It’s flat, unchanging, chill
Safe

A soft breath warns that it’s over
Warm tears and hot glare alternate their pounding
Nourishing the new colors as they shred my blanket into pieces
My threadbare remnants melt away as quietly as they arrived
Chaos reigns again
